Don't Pull Out My Wing
November 10th, 2014, dreamscape, I saw the wall again, I wonder if it was a reflection of the Great Wall, or a wall of my own creation. I flew over it many times in many dreams. It was always made from dangerous wooden spikes 2 to 3 stories high. To the north, there was the unknown -- harsh, cold, magnificent mountains, rivers and lakes; to the south, there was civilization, grey, clustered, full of memories and familiar.
Years ago, about a hundred meters north of home, in the wild field, I caught a dragonfly by its wings. I had then been told not to pull wings off of insects, but nothing stopped me from placing it in an abandoned spider web above me and watching it struggle. Its transparent wings glittered in yellow sunlight like stained glass, I can't forget.
Arms spread wide, Bug glares intently at its wearer. With a detachable filigree wing and a toothy mouth clasped around the wearer's finger, this double-finger ebony ring represents a failing struggle against naïve curiosity, cruelty, will, and strength.
